Anna's Adventure in the Land of Freedom

Last December, I had the amazing opportunity to see the sights of America. There were so many cool things to do there. The lovely people, beautiful art and music, yummy food, and amazing history make it the place to be.

It really is a giant country (so much to see). I was lucky enough to visit LA, San Diego, Washington (during the hype of political unrest), Boston (during the snowy season), and the amazing New York City. There were many highlights for me but my favourite activities were: walking the freedom trail in Boston and learning about how America came to be its own independent country; having a massive snowball fight with my brother; catching the subway and walking out into the extremely-buzzing Times Square; meeting a member of the NYC ballet; and taking in the incredible view from the Empire State Building.

If you find yourself roaming around the USA, here are some recommendations (survival tips):

  1. Pose with a Trump cardboard cut-out and hang around the Trump hotel (it’s about as close as you’ll get to the man himself!).

  2. Try on expensive jewellery for fun at Tiffany’s, even if you cannot afford it.

  3. Go to the Statue of Liberty, but don’t let the security guard roll your bag off a conveyor belt.

  4. Eat some choc chip biscuits – would recommend.

  5. Don’t eat the imitation Weetbix cereal – wouldn’t recommend.

  6. See the ballet: the music rocks (well, ok, it is classical music – but it still rocks) and the dancing is beautiful.

  7. Try a game of ice hockey. I thought many times the puck was going to hit me in the head but there is a safety barrier, so no worries.

  8. Go to a show on Broadway – Kinky Boots by Cyndi Lauper is fantastic.

  9. Go to an art gallery and gawk at Picasso or Van Gough, even if you can’t paint for your life.

  10. And if it snows, go out in the early morning and have a snow ball fight and make snow angels.
